The Social Security Retirement benefit is a monthly check that replaces part of your income when you reduce your hours or stop working altogether. You qualify if you are 62 or older and have worked and paid Social Security taxes for 10 years. The amount will be higher the longer you wait to apply, up until age 70.

Medicare/Benefits Staff and Volunteer Counselors provide FREE assistance to clients on Medicare and benefit related issues through one-on one counseling, outreach to the public, and telephone consults. Community members need to call the Intake and Referral line for information and to start the referral process for services. The majority of our services are for those 60 and older.

A person is automatically enrolled in Medicare hospital insurance (Part A) when he or she applies for Social Security benefits upon reaching 65.
